Tooth Implant
Dental Implants are titanium alloy screws that are inserted into your jawbone. These implants gradually integrate with the bone and become false roots that can be used to support crowns, bridges or dentures.

What are the benefits of implants?
When implants are used to support a crown, they can replace a lost tooth without causing damage to adjacent teeth.
When they are used to support a bridge, they can help to restore chewing and improve your smile without putting strain on your natural teeth.
When they are used as an anchor for dentures, they can prevent your denture from slipping or dropping.

How long do they last?
Implants are effective and long lasting. In fact, they are so successful that they if teeth are heavily filled with failing root fillings or made loose by gum disease, we often consider removing the tooth and replacing it with implants.
Can anyone have implants?
We recommend that implants should only be fitted when a person's growth is complete - at around 19 years old. There must also be adequate bone to accommodate the implant and enough space between the teeth to place the crown, bridge or denture. These problems can be addressed either by grafting or by creating space with simple orthodontics.
Will it hurt?
Placing implants is normally a minor surgical procedure performed under a local anaesthetic. You shouldn't suffer any pain during the procedure but some patients can experience some discomfort in the week following surgery.

- You may have to wait for several months for the implant to heal
before an artificial tooth can be fitted.
- The implant and the artificial tooth may be fitted by two different dentists.
